It’s June 11th, and Cardinals slugger Jordan Walker already is setting career highs, as St. Louis continues to exceed expectations.
His single and 401-foot drive gave him 52 RBIs, one more than his previous career best set in his rookie season. He also surpassed his previous high by hitting his 17th homer.
Last season was Walker’s worst season yet as he had a slash line of .215/.278/.306 with six homers.
But now it’s a whole different story.
The 24-year-old putting up MVP-caliber numbers on a pre-arb salary, slashing .301/.359/.557 (156 wRC+) across 63 games this season.
Walker is 13-for-28 (.464) over his last six games and has an extra-base hit in five straight. He is just the third Cardinal (Rogers Hornsby in 1922 and Ray Lankford in 1997) in franchise history to have at least 30 extra-base hits, 50 RBIs and 10 stolen bases through their first 64 games in a season.
That’s right, even Albert Pujols didn’t accomplish the feat.
It’s taken a few years but Walker is thriving, the Cardinals have won six games in a row, and St. Louis is now nine games above .500
