The Cardinals will promote starting pitcher Quinn Mathews from Triple-A Memphis to start on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Mathews, 25, is currently 5-3 with a 3.13 ERA, 19 games, 19 starts, 92 innings, 111 strikeouts, 52 walks, and a whip of 1.14 in 2026.

Mathews had his best season in 2024, combined between Single-A Palm Beach, High-A Peoria, Double-A Springfield, and Triple-A Memphis. That season, Mathews was 8-5 with a 2.76 ERA, 26 games, 26 starts, 143.1 innings, 202 strikeouts, 49 walks, and a whip of 0.98. The wins, games, starts, innings, and strikeouts were all career highs for Mathews. The ERA was also a career best for Mathews. The strikeouts also were the most in the minor leagues.

Overall, Mathews is currently in his 3rd minor league season. Mathews is 17-15 with a 3.15 ERA, 69 games, 69 starts, 334.1 innings, 428 strikeouts, 175 walks, and a whip of 1.19.

Mathews ranks as the Cardinals 7th best prospect. The Cardinals drafted Mathews in the 4th round (122nd overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Stanford University.

Mathews isn’t on the 40-man roster, so someone will be designated for assignment or be moved to the 60-day IL to open a spot.
